"Sherman"

This is a painting I'm working on currently of my big Siamese Manx cat, Sherman. I've recently purchased a set of Golden Open Acrylics and thought he made a great subject for my to try out a new technique. I've wanted to paint Sherman's picture for quite some time. He has very large, intense blue eyes and always seems to be planning something devious.

The main colors are blocked in and the eyes are close to done. Now comes the time consuming task of painting in the fur and individual hairs.....

I was born in Delta, Colorado in 1972. I spent most of my life in Western Colorado before moving to Buena Vista with my husband and best friend, Brett in 2005. We have two daughters, Jaclyn and Morgan, who have given me a whole new outlook on patience, humor, and love.

My interest in art started when I was very young. There are several artists in my family and art was something I grew up with. I remember once forgetting a big new box of crayons on the dash of my mom’s new Thunderbird…on a hot summer day. Even after that rather colorful episode I had a lot of encouragement to pursue what I have always appreciated and loved ~ art.

I had two very talented high school art teachers who helped me learn different mediums and build confidence in my work. I consider myself a self taught artist and know I still have a lot to explore. I try to learn something new with each work and in turn give some part of myself to it. I have always loved the outdoors and especially animals. They fascinate me with their beauty and uniqueness. I feel that if I can convey that in my art then I’ve done what I set out to do. My favorite subjects are animals and birds with the goal being to make them almost breathe.

I enjoy many mediums but work mostly in watercolor pencil, acrylic, and oil paint. I also work in pencil and various pen & ink techniques. I’ve always enjoyed the subtleness of pencil and it’s still one of my favorite mediums.

My work is currently on display at several locations in Buena Vista, Colorado and enjoyed in many private collections throughout the United States.
